Acceleration of corrosion of 304 stainless steel by outward extracellular electron transfer of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm

The influence of outward extracellular electron transfer (EET) Pseudomonas aeruginosa in accelerating corrosion 304 stainless steel was investigated. With less NO3? available as acceptor, P. biofilm accelerated the pitting corrosion. ICP-MS and XPS results indicated that promoted bioreductive dissolution iron oxides passive film steel. Using situ scanning electrochemical microscopy, we established a relationship between this deterioration EET process mediated by conversion redox states pyocyanin secreted aeruginosa.
